01What clarity means

Eight questions about your money, answered in one place.

Not more numbers — the numbers you would actually ask for, each with a place in Alite that answers it.

Where is my money?
AccountsEvery account in the currency it actually holds, valued together in the one you read in.
What did I spend?
ActivityEvery expense, dated and categorised, against the account it came out of.
What did I keep?
OverviewWhat came in less what went out, for any period — and against the savings rate you aim for.
What did I plan?
BudgetsA limit per category, counted as you spend rather than reported when the month is over.
What is coming?
RecurringRent, salary and subscriptions for the next thirty days, before they land.
What am I saving toward?
GoalsMoney already in your accounts, set aside for something, with what it needs each month.
What changed?
Net worth and ReportsThe trend over any period, and each finished month kept as it was issued.
What needs attention?
OverviewOnly what wants a decision: a budget near its limit, a payment that could not post, a missing rate.

02How it fits together

Six parts. One picture.

Each part of Alite answers one question, and none of them stands alone. Follow one month through it — and watch which figures on the Overview each part feeds.

  1. 01Accounts

    Where your money is.

Bank accounts, cash, savings and cards, each in the currency it actually holds. A dollar account stays in dollars; the Overview values everything together in the one currency you read in.

  2. 02Activity

    What happened.

Income and expenses, dated and categorised, each against the account it touched. An entry is the only thing that moves a balance — so every balance can be traced back to the entries behind it.

  3. 03Budgets

    What you planned to spend.

A limit per category, by week, month or year. Spending counts against it as it is recorded, so a category at 86% says so while there is still time to do something about it.

On the Overview: Budgets, and what needs attention

    Needs attention

Eating out is 86% used, and September is not over yet.

Only the spending rows in its category count toward it. The transfer to Savings never does.

  4. 04Recurring

    What is expected to happen.

Rent, salary and subscriptions on their schedules. The next thirty days show up before they land, and posting one records an ordinary entry — so it counts exactly like anything else you recorded.

  5. 05Goals

What you are setting money aside for.

A goal holds no money — your accounts do. Setting money aside earmarks what is already there, so you can see how much of what you have is spoken for, and what each goal still needs a month.

  6. 06Transfers

Money moving between your own accounts.

Both sides are recorded: what left one account and what arrived in the other, in its own currency if that is different. Both balances move. Income, spending and net worth do not.

On the Overview: Nothing. Moving money is not earning or spending it.

03Currencies and transfers

Three currencies, each with one job.

Most apps flatten everything into one currency and hope the rates work out. Alite keeps the three apart, which is why a total read in euros still adds up to the rupiah and dollars behind it.

  1. 01

    Where money is

    The account’s currency

An account holds one currency and keeps it. Your dollar account is in dollars whether you read Alite in rupiah, euros or anything else.

  2. 02

    What actually happened

    The currency it moved in

Each entry keeps the rate of its own day, so last year’s purchase keeps last year’s value. A transfer across currencies records what left and exactly what arrived — the rate your bank gave you, not an estimate.

  3. 03

    How you read it

    Your display currency

A view, not an edit. Change it in Settings and every total re-reads in the new currency; no recorded figure changes.

Try one. Pick two accounts and an amount: both balances move, and the interface says plainly that nothing was earned or spent.

04Numbers you can check

The rules the arithmetic follows.

Five of them, kept on every page. They are why a figure in Alite can be traced back to the entries that made it.

  1. 01

    Calculated, not estimated

Balances, net worth, budgets and savings rate are worked out from the entries you recorded, every time you open the page.

  2. 02

Transfers are never income or spending

Moving money between your own accounts changes two balances and nothing else. You pick From and To; Alite keeps it out of the totals.

  3. 03

A missing rate is shown as missing

If a currency cannot be priced, its balance is left out and flagged — never quietly counted as zero.

  4. 04

    Goals do not move money

Setting money aside for a goal earmarks it. Every account balance reads the same before and after.

  5. 05

    Yours to keep

Export your ledger to CSV at any time. Hide amounts on screen with privacy mode, and protect sign-in with two-factor authentication.

Start with one account and one entry.

The picture is only ever as good as what goes into it. Alite makes putting things in quick, and the arithmetic afterwards exact.
